SPHERA

New leadership for the SPHERA Consortium

We are pleased to announce a change in the leadership of the SPHERA Consortium, effective March 1st, 2026. Following two years of coordination by ISGlobal and INSERM, the leadership role will be assumed by Lund University.

During a Consortium meeting on January 15th, 2026, all SPHERA partners expressed strong support for the Lund University candidacy and unanimously agreed to appoint Lund University as the new leading centre of SPHERA.

Within Lund University, Anna Oudin and Ebba Malmqvist will assume the leadership roles, with support from Karin Broberg and Lars Rylander. This team brings together a powerful combination of expertise to benefit the Consortium, including exposome research, climate change, health policy and research lobbying.

As SPHERA enters this new phase, the Consortium will consolidate successful initiatives from previous years while defining new strategic priorities. Among the first tasks to be carried on under the new leadership, there will be organizing SPHERA’s contribution to FP10 discussions, advocating for increased funding for research on environment, climate, and health, and addressing the current underfunding of this research area within the ERC funding scheme.

The outgoing coordination team –Manolis Kogevinas and Giulia Pollarolo from ISGlobal, and Robert Barouki from INSERM–, wish the new team at Lund University the very best of luck in this new endeavour.
